Review: Bear & Rue.

Coming into writing a blog I was aware that it was essential that my photography made a big impact and that I would need to shout about it- loud & proud! From the metaphorical blogosphere rooftops! Cue my search for beautiful, milestone disks that would feature in my pics and remind me of who we are and what our mission is!

Nikki and Bobbi-Lee have lovingly handcrafted this gorgeous #InstaShop, work appearing on many an influencers feed that bring beautiful walnut & oak wooden items to life! The goodies hark from nurseries of the imagination. I love creative, wooden decor and the wood almost smells like childhood. I couldn’t help but be flooded with great nostalgia as I excitedly opened my package. It makes me think of all things Hundred Acre Wood for some reason and evokes my true love of the Winnie the Pooh stories (maybe it is in the very natural sounding name too!)

The items range from milestone disks, wooden props, alpha blocks to keepsakes and even their own beautiful characters lovingly crafted in wood to inspire your little people (heck it even inspires the big people too!!! I was taken with the goodies straight away and knew I MUST own a gorgeous milestone disk to give my photography rustic charm and an extra dimension for whimsy!)

I could not have been more excited to unwrap my gorgeous birch plaque/disk. It was finished beautifully with an intricately cut leaf design which complimented beautifully my double-sided delight! I had requested for the disk to introduce us so have “Bea & Me” on one side, then was keen to include #OOTD (Outfit Of The Day) posts on my evolving Instagram account so requested this to be added.

The possibilities for your own disks are endless and any dream InstaPic can be achieved. The website even lists a handy guide to the milestones/announcements you could buy are not limited to use! The disks are only limited by your imagination!I will be sure to get more in for upcoming events. Some of the Halloween Designs are super adorable. The entire Instagram Page is just a delight to scroll through and collect inspiration for your own blog journeys or even just personal adventures you wish to capture for your private worlds.

The disk was a perfect size for transporting between my home and the shoot location. Though they are compact they are the perfect prop size to compliment your photography subject/objects. Because of the finish I wasn’t worried about Bea handling the disk herself (there would be no nasty splinters here because the finish was impeccable!) The paints used are non toxic so you can be safe I The knowledge that your little ones are safe in the presence of the disk. Approx size- Diameter: 12cm x 6mm thick.

The products look like they have just been transported straight from your favourite childhood stories. There is clearly a family focus at the core of the company as it was brought into reality in 2016 after the two sisters had their babies in the same year. The motivation was so that Nikki never had to be away from her daughter (unless on her own terms) so this small business has heart! Nikki herself describes Bear & Rue as being “Artisan Hand Painted Decor” and loves knowing a little piece of her art and her baby will be making peoples homes a little more magical!

I just loved using my beautiful disk on my first attempt at flatlay photography. The material is robust and holds it own to create drama and focus. I am just a little bit obsessed with the darling Bear & Rue solid oak shapes that are Nikki’s favourite item to create too. The characters are recognisable and can easily be woven into storytelling. It is lovely to think that they have been inspired by Nikki and Bobbi-Lee’s own children, as if to immortalise such a wonderful moment in time and always keep a little piece of childhood close by!
